Lynn Panter passed away December 29, 2022. He was born September 4, 1935 and grew up in North Chattanooga with his parents Willard and Nell and his siblings Melba, Jim, Barbara, and Wanda. He is survived by Pat (his wife of 67 years); daughters Karen (Billy), Linda, and Janet (Jim); grandchildren Jessica (Dusty) and Spencer (Savannah); great-grandchildren who brought him much joy and hilarity Caroline, Hoyt, Kennedy, and Lyndon; and his beloved sister Barbara Bennett. Lynn was a faithful member of First Centenary United Methodist Church where four generations of his family worship. He was retired from Western Electric where he made many life-long friends who have supported each other in their senior years.
Lynn was well-known for his ability to fix and build almost anything. He gladly shared that skill and talent with his family, his many friends, and his church. Lynn loved spending time on the lake and spent many happy hours on the porch looking at the scenery. In his younger years, he was a water skiing fool. In his later years, he was content with staying in the boat. Until just a few years ago, he enjoyed his annual trip to Hilton Head where he would sit on the beach for hours at a time under an umbrella and covered from chin to foot with a towel. After retirement, he had a variety of interests including playing banjo, cooking, cake decorating (especially bunny cakes at Easter), and chasing technology with his laptop and iPad. He and Pat built a strong, close-knit family who have continued the Sunday dinner tradition for many years. As the family grew, there were usually 15 places set at the BIG table each week. The great-grandchildren especially liked the dinners when GP (grandpa) made spaghetti.
A Celebration of Life for Lynn will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, January 14, 2023 in the sanctuary at the First-Centenary United Methodist Church with a private interment to follow. Family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until 1:15 pm Saturday in the Narthex at the church.
