Wesley M. James, 73, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Saturday, June 25, 2011. A native of Dayton, TN, he has been a resident of the Chattanooga area most of his life and was a member of the Vine Grove United Methodist Church. He was a registered surveyor in Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama and had operated his own business for over 10 years. After his retirement he worked for Betts Engineering. A loving husband, father and grandfather he loved spending time with his grandkids and loved to travel. He attended Tennessee Tech and UTC and was an avid UT Vols fan. He was the son of the late Morgan and Jennie Matthews James and was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Christensen. Survivors include his wife, Mona James; daughter and her husband, Beth and Ty Adkins, Signal Mountain; two grandchildren, Austin Adkins and Jenny Adkins. The family request in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vine Grove United Methodist Church, 211-8th Ave., Dayton, TN 37321 or to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 5401 Highway 153.
