“Corky” graduated from Pleasant Hill Academy (PHA), Pleasant Hill, Tennessee which changed the direction of his life. He cherished his years there and the life long friendships he developed. He was president of his senior class and played basketball.
“Walt” moved to Chattanooga in 1950 to work at DuPont as a millwright. Leaving DuPont, (1951-1953) he proudly served in the US Army in Berlin, Germany during the Korean War. Returning to DuPont, he completed 33 years of service and remained active with DuPont retirees and friends throughout his life.
Eventually “Corky” moved home to his family farm at “Pettit Cove” in Quebeck, TN. In “retirement” he built two houses, raised cattle, gardened and never retired. He was a devoted father, husband and friend. He was a hard worker and loved life. An avid reader with a keen memory, he enjoyed citing facts about country music artists and their songs. He loved dancing and his clogging always brought a smile. A conversationalist, he enjoyed sitting on his front porch, sharing a story, discussing history, current events, family history, or telling a joke. He loved driving his red truck, and was often heard saying “Let’s go”.
We will miss our daddy, papaw, and friend immeasurably, but rejoice that we will be reunited in heaven one day.
Join us in a celebration of his life at a graveside service on Wednesday, December 22 at 1:00 pm EST. Interment will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hwy 153, Hixson TN.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Hill Historical Society of the Cumberlands, P.O.Box 264, Pleasant Hill, TN 38578.
