He was born on June 14, 1951 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Bob earned his Bachelor’s Degree from University of Tennessee and his Law Degree from Memphis State Law School. He practiced law in Hamilton County and served as Signal Mountain City Judge for 13 years. He was appointed Hamilton County General Sessions Judge for Tennessee in 1996, was elected in 1998 and re-elected in 2006 by overwhelming margins.
Bob was very active in the Boys Club of Chattanooga and touched the lives of countless children in this area. Bob was an avid hunter, deep sea fisherman and had traveled all over North America. He was an avid 1940 Ford Collector and won many nationals. Bob enjoyed writing and shared this gift with many in the world. He had just written a poem in honor of Rees Skillern, son of Hamilton County Commissioner Fred Skillern. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga. Bob also held memberships in the Rotary Club of Chattanooga, Harrison Ruritan Club, Chattanooga Bar Association and the Tennessee Bar Association.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Moon, Sr.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Debbie I. Moon of Signal Mountain; mother, Christine L. Moon and brother, Mark D. Moon both of Red Bank; mother-in-law Lois Cooper of Millington, TN; brother-in-law, Mack Cooper of Gulf Shores, AL and nieces, Kelli and Maddi Horn of Millington, TN
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the North Chapel and 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 554 McCallie Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37402.
Services for Judge Moon will follow at 3 p.m. on Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Fred Steelman and Rev. Chris Ehlers officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens Morris Bice, Gerald Brown, Donnie Covey, Claude Sterling, Judge David Bales and Dr. Jim Eyssen serving as pallbearers. Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger, Hamilton County Commissioners and Hamilton County Judiciary will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the Chattanooga Boys Club, 610 Lindsay Street, Chattanooga, TN 37403.
