Joyce Lynn McMahan, age 83, walked through the heavenly gates on Sunday, June 27, suddenly and unexpectedly. She was the most amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to others - including strangers on the street. Her kind heart was felt by all she met. To her family, she was known as JoJo. And for us, she set the example of love, kindness, and most importantly faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. She was a committed member of Red Bank Baptist Church for 60 years. She served faithfully in several ministries of the church, including the Caring Hands ministry, where she loved and encouraged others weekly. She loved playing cards and exercising weekly with her special friends who meant so much to her.
Her family was the most important thing in her life, and she constantly expressed how blessed and grateful she was for her family. But the truth is, we, as her family, are the truly blessed ones having her in our lives. She loved life. She loved laughing and dancing and chasing her great grandchildren around.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Paul McMahan, and her special son-in-law, Bart Smith. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Cindy McMahan, Robin Smith, and Paula (Scooter) Dodd, and her 7 grandchildren - Tatiana McMahan, Christie (Kevin ) Crowe, Micah Smith, Eli Smith, Dustin (Elisha) Dodd, Delaney Dodd, and Darcy Dodd, as well as 3 precious great grandchildren - Callie and Chance Crowe, and Scout Dodd. She is also survived by brother-in-law Johnny McKenzie, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, July 1, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Graveside services for Joyce will be held at 11 am on Friday, at Chattanooga Memorial Park with Reverend Bill Harvey officiating.
