Johnny Lamar Adams

Johnny was born in Munford, AL on March 20, 1936. He served in the United States Air Force, in the Panama Canal from 1954 – 1958. He graduated from Jacksonville State University in Alabama with a degree in Accounting and had a long career at Volunteer State Life/Chubb Insurance in Chattanooga.

After retirement he volunteered at Memorial Hospital for several years.

He was an active member of Oakwood Baptist Church for many years serving mostly on the finance and securities committee. He was an avid runner and walker who enjoyed many adventures such as camping, traveling, snorkeling, biking, and snow skiing with his family and friends. He was a kind and gentle man whose life touched many people and he will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Yother Adams, his parents, John Knox and Nancy Hughes Adams, and his brothers, Carliss Adams, and Wilbur Adams.

He is survived by his children Twila (Wes) Willoughby, Tamela (Kelly) Adams, Tresa (Monty) Reeves, 3 grandchildren, Michaela (Conner) Reed, Karrigan Willoughby, and Drew Willoughby. Mr. Adams is also survived by his brother, Gene Adams, many nieces and nephews, and special friend Carolyn Sutton.

Funeral services will be conducted from Oakwood Baptist Church on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at 6:00 PM EDT, with Rev. Ken Clark and Pastor Sterling Jetton officiating. Entombment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Oakwood Baptist Church from 4:00 PM until service time.

The family requests that masking and adherence to CDC guidelines be followed at the church and cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Friends House Ministries or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
