Irene was born and raised in Benton, Tennessee and was a graduate of Polk County High School. She was a longtime member of Red Bank Baptist Church. Irene was employed with DuPont, sold Avon for a few years and was a longtime volunteer with the American Red Cross. She was a member of the Hixson Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Dixie Daisies Square Dance Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, John Emerson Witt.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Janis (Sandy) Reno; son, Bill Witt; grandchildren, Jason Chandler, Stacie Morales and Sharon (Trevor) Burgess; great granddaughters, Grace and Audrey Morales; sister-in-law, Carolyn (John) Guerry; Pat and Bill Guerry and their families; and several other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11 am until 12 pm on Saturday, August 20, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Irene’s life will follow at 12 pm on Saturday at the North Chapel with Reverend Bill Harvey officiating. Burial will be held at 2 pm on Saturday at Benton Memorial Gardens in Benton, Tennessee.
