She met the love of her life Silas Greer and they married in 1937.
They lived in Nashville until Silas was transferred to Chattanooga with Dupont in 1952.
Helen’s life spanned an extraordinary century. As a young mother her husband, Silas, fought on the front lines of WWII in Europe. Although he returned home safely from war, Silas passed away after a year long battle with cancer at the age of 46. Helen later married and lived happily with Paul Groce for many years before being widowed a second time. Later in life she was married to Don Manke, with whom she lived in Florida and enjoyed a wonderful life full of friends and golf.
After being widowed for a third time, Helen moved back to Chattanooga and actively attended Red Bank Baptist Church, where she was a member for more than 70 years.
Helen will be remembered as the witty, loving matriarch of a large family who pressed on through great challenges in her life
Helen was preceded in death by her three husbands, her son, Doug Greer, and her beloved great-grandson, Tristin Greer.
She is survived by her best friend, caregiver and the light of her world , her only daughter, Shirley Watts (John), her grandsons Jason Greer (Bronde), John Watts (Kim), Jeff Watts (Bridgitte), granddaughter Kim Wamp (Zach) as well as many great and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 Saturday March 14, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11-1 Saturday.
