Sorry to hear of Aunt Gussie"s passing. We are sorry we didn't get to the funeral home, but we don't drive to Chattanoog very often. Called Dwight and he said to let you know how sorry he was of her passing. We will always remember her love and of corse her whistle. Hope to see you in June.

Aunt Gussie was an amazing lady and I am so fortunate to be part of her family. I have so many fond memories of her. I always looked forward to visits with her because she was fun to be with. One time while my daughter was growing up,we went to visit her and Uncle Underwood. She was making tea and talking at the same,well,she lost count of how much sugar she put in the jug.She laughed and said "extra sugar won't hurt anything" It was too sweet but it didn't matter.We were both Elvis fans-she bought me the Moody Blue Album for my birthday. I still have it! She could whistle the loudest and make the BEST coconut cake in the world.She will be greatly missed by all. Family--God Bless You All  I love you

My brightest memories of Gussie and Underwood are from the 1950's when I was five to ten years old.  She was smiling and fun.  My memories of her entire household, Terrell, Patsy, Marilyn, Connie, and Van are very positive.  My childhood was blessed by my family's friendship with all of you.  May Light perpetual shine upon your mother.

Matthew 24:31 "He'll send out his angels with a loud trumpet blast, and they'll gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to another."  I have a suspicion that Granny's whistle will replace the trumpets....

Granny, I will always cherish the memories I have of you as a child. Going on long walks through your garden and you telling me which plants were which and what you were going to plant after the winter. That whistle of yours could stop a train, even dad can't whistle that loud and he does it all the time. I remember when I was in school in Tennessee I came and stayed with you for thanksgiving, You took me on my first black friday shopping adventure without mom and aunt connie we had so much fun. No matter how many times i have tried to make your homemade buttermilk biscuits I just can't seem to get them to taste as good as yours did. You were my hero when I was a little girl. You, and my mom could do no wrong in my eyes. I wish I could have spent more time with you recently, and that I didn't drift so far away from everyone, but sadly sometimes life gets in the way whether we want it to or not. You hold a special place in my heart, and your memory will live on through me forever. This is not goodbye granny, as I know we will see each other again someday. I love you very much. I took care of Gussie Taylor my entire time that I worked at Elmcroft of Shallowford Assisted Living, Heartland Village. I never knew the power of love until I became a resident assistant at Elmcroft. Gussie Taylor made me smile constantly. I remember one night in particular. I was working 3rd shift (10:30pm-6:30am). I check on all of the residents every 2 hours. At my 12am round, Gussie looked at me and said, "I am going home." I asked her what she meant and she replied, "I am ready to go see God." My heart sank but I felt joy because I knew that she was ready to be in heaven. At my next round which was 2am, I had to change her sheets because her bed got dirty. When I asked her to stand up for me she grabbed me with a big hug and she said, "I love you." I will never forget this. Gussie Taylor did not say the words I love you many times. This was the only time I heart her say it. She was one of the sweetest ladies that I have ever met. She was always so nice to me and even though she might not have always remembered me, I believe that she knew who I was and that I loved her dearly. For her 94th birthday I bought her chap stick, sugar free candy, and a card. She kept throwing the card because she didn't realize that it was for her but every time I read what the card said, she would smile. The last time that I saw Gussie was on December 26, 2012. I went to see her to give her a Christmas gift. I bought her fuzzy socks, fuzzy sock-shoes, a hand cream, a shower gel, some sugar free candy, and a card. I put the socks and shoes on her feet. She loved shoes so much. I would always show her my shoes and she would say, "Ohhh, those are nice." I told her that I loved her and kissed her head a million times the day after Christmas. I got tears in my eyes because she was not looking so good. I prayed with her and told God to take care of my, "Momma Gussie" and my "Fussie Gussie." She meant the world to me. I am so thankful that she is out of pain and that she is watching over me now. I know that she will be such a BEAUTIFUL angel. I will be at the visitation and the funeral on Saturday. I will bring my tissues and my memories with me. Gussie might not be with us anymore but she will always be in my heart. Thank you, God, for putting such a wonderful lady in my life because I know that she was taken care of 100% and that every time I saw her she knew she was loved. To Gussie's family, I love you all and I pray that God gives you the strength that you need. But just remember, she is out of pain and she is now in heaven and she is watching over us. Thank you for everything.

I am sorry to hear about your Mom.  She will be greatly missed.  She was a fine lady.  I will always remember her.
