King Duncan was born on September 22, 1943, in Knoxville, TN and passed from this life on December 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. King was a graduate of Bearden High School in Knoxville, TN. He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and his Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. He married Selina Inabinet of Knoxville, TN in May 1965.
King served as a pastor in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church throughout East Tennessee, then served as an evangelist spreading the good news of Jesus Christ in churches throughout Tennessee and southwest Virginia. He and his wife, Selina, opened a publishing company in 1974 to produce publications for pastors and professional speakers. Their worldwide subscriber base was so enthusiastic about King’s materials that he began receiving requests to train pastors and professional speakers. So began his career of traveling around the world leading training seminars for pastors and professional speakers. In 1993 King received the International Platform Association Speaking Ladder Award. He also received numerous letters of thanks throughout his career from pastors whose preaching was transformed by his seminars and publications.
In their retirement, King and Selina competed in the Senior Olympics basketball competitions with the Smoky Mountain Mamas and Smoky Mountain Papas of Knoxville, TN. They were instrumental in revitalizing St. Marks United Methodist Church in Chattanooga, TN, and were committed and active members of Hixson United Methodist Church in Hixson, TN.
King is survived by his wife of 59 years, Selina Inabinet Duncan of Hixson, TN; his brother, Timothy Duncan of Felton, CA; his daughters: Rebecca Duncan Clark (Stephen), Deborah Duncan, and Selina Duncan of Chattanooga, TN, and Angela Duncan Akers of Englewood, TN; his grandchildren, Rachel Clark (Juan Carlos), Sebastian Duncan, Anna Duncan, and Luka Duncan Hyde, and four greatgrandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charlton King Duncan, Sr., his mother, Glennie Cox Duncan, and his sister, Janie Francis Duncan.
The Receiving of Friends will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 TN Hwy 153, Hixson, TN, 37343.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Funeral Home beginning at 2:00 p.m. with interment immediately following.
