Betty Bivens Dunn of Chattanooga, Tennessee, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 16, 2021. She lived her life with kindness and grace. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother.
Betty was a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, growing up in Ridgedale. She later moved to East Lake and then to Hixson. She also lived for many years with her husband John in their home on Big Ridge with a beautiful view of the mountains and lake. While there, they were members of the Fairview United Methodist Church. Betty previously attended Ridgedale Baptist Church, East Lake Baptist Church and Highland Park Baptist Church where she was president of the Women’s Sunday School Class.
Betty graduated from Chattanooga Central High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the Drill Team.
In early years, Betty worked for a local life insurance company, and later served as a substitute teacher at East Lake Elementary School. She was very involved in the P.T.A. there and served as its President. In later years, Betty worked at Ross Meehan Foundries as the company receptionist and switchboard operator. She was the center of all the activity which occurred there! She was the competent and cheerful face and voice of the company where she and her husband loyally worked for many years.
Upon her retirement, Betty spent her days on Big Ridge while enjoying trips to Daytona Beach. She hosted many Saturday afternoon and holiday meals for her family. She was a wonderful cook, preparing many dishes which no one has been able to replicate!
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Dunn of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and grand-daughter Shelby Dee-Anne Hamill of Clearwater, Florida.
Survivors include one son, Timothy Scott Miller (Julie) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; one daughter, Frances Miller Beene (Robert) of Cleveland, Tennessee; two step-sons, John Dee Dunn (Vivian) of Newnan, Georgia, and Michael L. Dunn of Ooltewah, Tennessee; and one step-daughter, Ginger Dunn Hamill of Ooltewah, Tennessee. Grand-daughters are Lindsey Miller Alley (Nick) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Rachel Catlin Miller of Atlanta, Georgia, Michelle King Barker (Christopher) of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Elizabeth Dunn Luke (Mike) of Decatur, Georgia. Grandsons are Richard Lee King (Rochelle) of San Antonio, Texas, John Michael Dunn (Anna) of Newnan, Georgia, and Michael William Hamill (Mariah) of Palm Harbor, Florida. Great granddaughters are Victoria Brooke Joyner, Gabriella Madison Barker, Raichlen Claire Dunn, and Mia Rose Hamill. Great-grandsons are William Richard King, Andrew Ryan King, and John Kelly Dunn. Great-great grandsons are Benjamin Chance, Silas Chance, and Everett Chance.
The family will have a private service followed by interment in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
