"A. J." Aylor J. Layne

He was born May 22, 1928 at Palmer, Tennessee. Aylor was preceded in death by his parents, Aylor and Maudie Layne; two brothers, Raymond and Harold Layne; a sister, Edna Brewer. He graduated from Grundy County High School where he was valedictorian of his class. A. J. received his elementary teacher’s certificate from Middle Tennessee State University, and further his education at UTC Chattanooga. He taught school in Tennessee, Georgia, and Kentucky. A. J. retired from CSX Transportation after 37 years of service. He was the owner of American Journeys Limited, charter bus service. A. J. was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Alhambra Shrine Temple, and a 50 year member of Temple Masonic Lodge F&AM, where he was past master. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Aylor is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jo Ann Layne; daughter, Angela (Terry) Baker; son, Gavin (Tiffany) Layne, both of Chattanooga; granddaughter, Ashley Baker; grandsons, Terry “Trey” (Haylee) Baker, III, Joshua (Cassy) Layne, US Army Fort Bliss, Texas, and Ryan Layne, Chattanooga; great grandsons, Ryker, Levi, Carson Layne, Terry “Ford” Baker, IV, and Hayden Stiemer; two nieces, Connie Dawson and Cynthia Meeks; nephew, Keith Brewer; sister-in-law, Nellie Layne of Whitwell, TN.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, March 10, and 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for A. J. will follow at 12:30 pm on Saturday at the North Chapel with Reverend Lynn Cassaday and Reverend Herschel Powell officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Charlie Brawner, Gerald Layne, Rual Johnson, Wayne Dodd, Pete Smith, and Richard Easterly serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be all Freemasons. Terry Plemons will conduct the Masonic Service after the funeral service.

The family would like to thank Krista Graham and Lora Baker with Hearth Hospice for their love and care given to A. J.
