Robert David Johnson, age 76, of New Hudson, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Linda; his two sons: Aaron (Stephanie) Johnson, and Jarod (Erika) Johnson; his three step-children: Walter (Lisa) Knysz, Karen (Ebon) Wilkins, and Jason (Kim) Knysz; his eleven grandchildren: Spencer, Julianna, Logan, Alena, Evalynn, Emma, Wally, Elise, Elliot, Bryn, and Drew; and his first wife, Sylvia Johnson.
Robert was born April 6, 1945, in Detroit, the son of Mr. & Mrs. John and Elynor (Wurtz) Johnson. Robert graduated from high school with the class of 1963 and began his nursing training soon after. It was in 1965 when Robert was drafted into the United States Army, and he would proudly serve his country as a medic in Vietnam until his discharge in 1967. Upon his return from the service, Robert began his career as an industrial nurse at General Motors, where he worked for over thirty years until his retirement in 2004.
On June 1, 2007, Robert married Linda Zimmerman, a childhood friend he had the pleasure of reconnecting with; they shared fourteen wonderful years together. In his free time, Robert loved photography, and could always be found with his camera in hand. Robert loved playing golf and was even an all-state tennis player in his younger years. Robert had fond memories of his trips to Africa and Alaska with his wife, Linda. He was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elynor; his brother, Michael Johnson; and his nephew, Daniel Johnson.
In accordance with Robert’s wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial service will take place for Robert at 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the Highland Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 3295 E. Highland Road, Highland, Michigan 48356. Robert’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 pm until the time of service at 3:00 pm. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions in Robert's memory to the Michigan Special Olympics, or the Michigan Animal Rescue League.
