Burt Lee Crawford

Burt Lee Crawford, age 85, of Highland, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital in Commerce Township. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Barbara; his four children: Ann (Paul) Holka, Jim (Brenda) Crawford, Sherri Anderson, Keith (Denise) Crawford; his nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Burt also has one great-grandchild on the way! He will be dearly missed by his two bloodhounds, Jess and Mazie, who he cared for deeply.

Burt was born April 17, 1938, in Detroit, the son of Mr. & Mrs. James and Mildred (Volkes) Crawford. Burt met the love of his life when he was introduced to Barbara Callaghan at a restaurant nearly fifty years ago. He and Barbara began dating, and were eventually married in July of 1985, sharing nearly thirty-nine wonderful years together.

Burt devoted his professional life to a successful career as a drywall contractor. He took pride in his business, Burt Crawford Drywall, and at the time of his retirement on his 75th birthday, he had spent over fifty years developing his skills. In his free time, Burt could always be found working in his garden, caring for his dogs, or painting. His family will remember him as a Jack of All Trades, who could always be counted on to fix things. Most of all, Burt cherished the time he spent with his family and close friends. He was a wonderful man who will be dearly missed.

Burt was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mildred; his son, Don Crawford; and his brother, Bob Crawford.

In accordance with Burt’s wishes, cremation will take place. A Memorial Service will take place at 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at the Highland Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 3295 E. Highland Road, Highland, Michigan 48356. Burt’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm.
