Sandra Lee Smith

Sandra Lee Smith, age 75, passed away peacefully to begin her eternal life with our risen Savior on June 12, 2024.

Sandy was a lifelong resident of Whiting/Robertsdale. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Janiga and Shirley (Dolato) Janiga Lazzareschi; and by her husband, Charles Gordon Smith.

She is survived by her two daughters, Jennell Brzinski of Green Bay, WI and Leslie Irish (Ryan) of Huntsville, AL. Sandy was a grandmother to Delaney and Autumn Brzinski, and Morgan and Riley Irish; sister to Thomas Janiga and Mary Jo Rymarczyk (Michael); nieces, Juliann and Joley Rymarczyk.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 6 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Adalbert’s Church, Whiting, IN, with Rev. Mark Peres officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family before the Mass at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN, following the services.

Sandy was a graduate of Whiting High School and worked at McDonald’s and Shrimp T’ Go in Whiting before retiring from her position as an operator at the Hammond Clinic. She enjoyed camping in Monticello with her husband and the many friends they made over the years. Sandy also enjoyed cooking, baking, cookbooks, crocheting, gardening, and spending time with her two beloved canine companions, Bella and Dottie.
