Kenneth W. Gardner passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Community Hospital. His death was unexpected because he was getting better. He was a wonderful friend and a great husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was 66 years young when he left this world and was gone from us entirely too soon.
Ken was born in Logansport, IN to Wayne and Louise (Sherman) Gardner, who are also in heaven. He was the oldest of four siblings. Bryan (Sharon) Gardner, Sherri (Mike Wood) Gardner and Timothy (Brenda) Gardner. He graduated from Highland High School, joined the Army to serve his country honorably and married his high school sweetheart, Peggy M. (nee Steiss) Gardner. They have been married for 46 years.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife Peggy Gardner; three children, Phillip (Mandie) Gardner, Jessica Gardner-Bain, and LeeAnn Gardner. He was blessed enough to have nine grandchildren; Leon (Cady) Bain Jr., Ariana (Kyle) Bain-Wessinger, Sabrina Bain, NaTasha (Zachery) Amptmeyer, Corbin Gardner, Skye Gardner, Austin Bain, Alexzandria Carolina Rios and Ellah Ignas and even further blessed to have four great-grandchildren; Killian Wessinger, Ariah Rose Martin, Adalynn Amptmeyer and Zachery Amptmeyer Jr. He also has many of his children’s friends that he was affectionately known as "Papa". He was and is always going to be loved and missed.
A memorial visitation for "Papa" will be held Friday, January 21, 2022 from 6PM to 8PM at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 6709 Arizona Ave., Hammond, IN 46320. A memorial service will begin at 6:30PM with a Military Honors tribute to Ken's faithful and honorable service. Pastor James Thompson will be officiating.
