Richard Milton Velat, 65, passed away peacefully at his home in Jamestown on Monday, June 4th, 2018. He was born in Pikeville, KY on February 27th, 1953 to the late Eugene Anderson and Ruth Branham Velat.
Richard was a loving husband and a caring father who will be greatly missed by all. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran. Richard was an active member of Shining Light Baptist Church and served the Nursing Home Ministry for 27 years.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents; and son Richard Milton Velat II.
Richard is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Ann Velat; son Garrick H. Velat of Jamestown, NC; brother Gary (Linda) Anderson of Virgie, KY; sister Barbara (Danny) Woods of Danbury, NC; and many loving extended family members.
Visitation for Richard will take place from 6pm-9pm on Wednesday, June 6th, 2018 at Shining Light Baptist Church of Greensboro. A funeral service will then be held at 11am on Thursday, June 7th, 2018 at Shining Light Baptist Church of Greensboro, Pastor Dr. Thomas Satterfield and Pastor Charles Mustian officiating. Burial will follow funeral services at the Shining Light Church Cemetery.
