Goob was born in High Point, September 4, 1938, a son of the late Robert Raymond Gibson and Ida Robinson Gibson. He owned and operated Gibson Auto Sales for over forty years. He was a member of Cloverdale Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and watching sports of all kinds. Goob was preceded in death by three children, Vicki and Timothy Gibson and Tracy Shuler; a grandson, Corey Loman; sisters, Shelby Marshall, Carolyn Ann Newton and a brother, R.L. Gibson.
Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Violet Gibson, the love of his life; two daughters, Debra English and husband Terry and Tina Yates and husband Kenny; four sons, Keith Gibson, Phillip Gibson, Jr. and wife Carol, Phillip B. Gibson and wife Misty, and J.R. Shuler and wife Virginia; a sister, Jackie Lambeth; two brothers, Charles Gibson and Tony Gibson and wife Miyoko; eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Goob’s Life will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Davis Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor David Edwards and Pastor Bruno Wolf. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 1 until 2 p.m. Pallbearers will be Alan English, Michael English, Brandon English, Timothy Gibson, Seth Gibson and Ricky Gibson. Memorials may be directed to the Hayworth Cancer Center or Cloverdale Baptist Church.
