Mattie Lomax, born in North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2024, at Sibley Hospital in Washington DC. She was born on February 13, 1935, to her loving parents, James Bolden and Laura Williams. As the matriarch of the family, she was called "MOTHER".
Mattie was a pillar of strength and grace, known for her humor, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to those close to her. She touched the lives of all who knew her with her truth, warmth, and compassion. Throughout her life, she faced challenges with resilience and courage, always putting her loved ones first. She was the definition of stoicism.
Mattie was preceded in death by her dear daughter, Libbia Ann Bolden-Ingram, and her beloved son, Alvin Lomax. Though they may have left this world before her, their spirits remained intertwined with hers, guiding her through life's trials and triumphs.
She is survived by her dear son, Melvin Lomax, her loving daughter, Vickie Simmons, and her cherished son, Archie Lomax. Mattie is also survived by her brother, James Bolton, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Her legacy continues through her several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life and brought her immeasurable joy.
Mattie's life was a testament to the power of love and family. She created a home filled with warmth and laughter, where all were welcomed with open arms. If you ever needed a shoulder to cry on, or life advice, she was there. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her in return.
As she peacefully passed from this world to the next, she left behind a legacy of love and compassion that will never be forgotten.
Mattie Lomax will be dearly missed, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will always be remembered with fondness and gratitude.
A visitation for Mattie will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sechrest-Davis Funerals and Cremations, 976 Phillips Avenue, High Point, North Carolina 27262, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM.
Mattie will be laid to rest in Carolina Biblical Gardens of Guilford, 5710 Riverdale Drive, Jamestown, North Carolina 27282.
