Mrs. Irene Callahan, 84, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at her residence following several years of declining health. Irene was born in High Point, November 15, 1931, a daughter of Jessie Raymond and Mary Betty Venable Mitchell. She retired from E.R. Carpenter after 33 years of service. Irene was a faithful member of English Rd. Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She volunteered at High Point Regional Hospital surgical family waiting room for many years. Irene was a devoted mother and grandmother, who was devoted to her church and church family. She loved nature and animals of all kinds and she enjoyed working in her flowers gardens as long as she was able. Irene was preceded in death by four brothers, Bob, Jack, Harold and J.T. Mitchell. Surviving are two daughters, Vicki S. Shoaf of Southport and Patricia Johnson and husband Buck of Archdale; a son, Mike Callahan and wife Donna of Asheboro; five grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson, Scott Youngblood, Tamra Shoaf, Tommy Shoaf and Mitchell Callahan; six great-grandchildren, Olivia, Kaylee and Zachary Shoaf, Magan Youngblood, Hannah Stanley and Emily Landers. A Celebration of Irene’s Life will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the English Road Baptist Church by Rev. Dr. Jim Summey. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davis Funerals and Cremations Wednesday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and at other times the home. Memorials may be directed to English Road Baptist Church.
