John Richard Furr 94 died peacefully on July 28, 2013 at Greensboro Manor. He was born to the late John Clarence and Lula May Davis Furr on June 24, 1919 in High Point. John was devoted to his wife of 66 years, Kathleen, who preceded him in death, he loved his family, the Lord and his church. John was honorably discharged from the US Navy, serving in WWII. He started his career as a truck driver for Railway Express in High Point and then became a branch manager for US Plywood Corp., in Roanoke VA., which was Champion International and is now International Paper. John proudly completed his GED at age 75. He loved woodworking, reading, watching ACC football and basketball and Atlanta Braves baseball. John was a member of the High Point Friends Meeting, First United Methodist Church of Salem, VA and Christ United Methodist Church in High Point.
John is survived by his sons, Richard M. Furr and wife Lana J. of Advance, NC, Rodney P. Furr and wife Dianne R. of Salem, VA, grandchildren, R. Michael Furr and wife Dr. Sarah Squire, David A. Furr and wife Carrie P., Jeffery T. Furr and wife Kathy C., and Cydney R. Bennett and husband J. Aaron Bennett. He is also survived by great grandchildren, Paul Miller Furr, Matthew Richardson Furr, Sarah Elizabeth Furr, Sebastian Furr, Anders Emerson Bennett, and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, August 6th, 2013, 2:00pm at Sechrest Funeral Chapel in High Point with a visitation one hour prior.
