HIGH POINT – Mr. Estill Ray Reedy, 88, of High Point, NC walked through the heavenly gates and met the Lord on August 28, 2012. He was born on May 26, 1924, in Volney, VA to Gene Otto Reedy and Maude Anderson Reedy. He is preceded in death by four sisters, Viola Pugh, Ossie Sturgill, Edith Pugh, and Ruth Duerson, all of Marion, VA. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Reedy whom he married February 14, 1981. He is also survived by four children, Janet Beasley (Donald), Kim Maxwell, Laurie Curtin (Robert), and Michael Reedy (Angie). He is also survived by three step-children, Patricia Spivey (Melvin), Ronda Locklear (Tommy), and Doug Cline. In addition, he is survived by eight grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately known as “Pepoo”. He has two surviving nieces and one surviving nephew of Marion, VA. Lastly, he is survived by his dog companion Stubby.
He was educated in North Carolina at Grassy Creek shortly before entering the Army Air Corps in 1943 where he served for three years in the South Pacific zone during World War II after which he was honorably discharged. During his service, he earned medals for Asiatic-Pacific service, American Theatre service, Good Conduct, World War II victory, as well as four bronze service stars. After his military duties, he was employed by Silver Knit Hosiery Mills for a number of years after which he retired to work for Food Lion. During his retirement, he also dabbled in the Flea Market where he was known as the “Cheaper Dealer”.
In life, he was a member of North Pointe Church, of which he loved. He was also an avid Nascar and country music fan and loved biscuits and gravy. In death, he will continue to be loved and missed dearly.
Funeral Services will be at Sechrest Funeral Chapel in High Point on Friday August 31, 2012 at 11:00am. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 6-8:30pm at the funeral home.
He fought the fight, finished the course, and won the victory.
