NEWTON – Ruth Daphne Pollard, 101, of Newton went home to be with the Lord on December 28, 2021.
Born on August 17, 1920, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late George and Lucinda Moore Bolick. Ruth was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and St. Andrew Lutheran Church of Hickory. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Along with her husband, Felix R. Pollard, Ruth owned Starlite Morgan Horse Farm, raising and showing horses throughout the region. She also established and directed the child development center at Hickory High School where she gently taught, guided, and loved pre-schoolers for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and 11 siblings.
Survivors include her son Michael E. Pollard and wife Kem, her son Rick Pollard, grandsons Brian, Travis, Andy and granddaughters Holly and Mary Ward, as well as seven great-grandchildren. Ruth will be greatly missed by her family and by many in the Hickory area whose lives she touched and influenced.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at noon at Catawba Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Neilson officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
