pancreatic cancer.
Rick, as he was known by all family and friends, was born May 1, 1944 in Hickory, NC. His parents
were Dewey Owen Sigmon and Virginia Williams Sigmon. He retired after many years as an
insurance adjuster and insurance sales. He graduated from Hickory High School in 1962 and
served in the Army while taking a break from college. He returned to Lenoir Rhyne and
graduated in 1970. He loved all sports and was an avid fan of the Carolina Tarheels, Texas
Ranger Baseball, his beloved Washington Redskins and of course his alma mater Lenoir Rhyne
Bears. He was a former Hickory Clowns Basketball player and lived and breathed tennis and
could hold his own for many years playing in many tournaments.
Rick was a lifetime member of West Hickory Baptist Church but was most recently a member of
Bethlehem Baptist. He served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher for children and youth,
Youth Leader and Baptist Men’s Association. He loved serving on mission trips and going with
the youth to summer camp. He stepped in and stepped up as needed by any and all. He
always put the care of others before his own and sacrificed as much time as needed. His heart
was with the youth of the church. He loved them like family and there wasn’t anything he would
not do for any and all of them. He never considered it work but a calling to serve. He had a
love for animals and seemed to always have more than one at a time no matter how hard he
tried not to. His best buddy and walking partner was Charlie, his most loved dog. Rick's pride
and joy was his daughter Channing followed by his granddaughter Airiana. They both had him
wrapped around their little finger but he loved it. He always said they kept him young. He was
excited to have a grandson, he just turned 6 months old, and was so happy to be able to meet him
and spend time with him, even if just for a short time.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Owen and Virginia Sigmon.
Rick is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patricia B. (Pat) Sigmon, daughter Channing Dezayas
and husband Alex, granddaughter Airiana Vo, and grandson Alexander Dezayas, III.
Also brother-in-law, Chuck Bramlett and wife Kim; brother-in-law, Danny Stilwell and wife Kathy;
