HICKORY----Richard Wayne Lutz, 69, passed away February 9, 2016 at Catawba Regional Hospice after a period of declining health. Richard was born June 16, 1946 in Catawba Co. to the late Samuel Aaron and Ava Hefner Lutz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Nelson Lutz, Sr. Richard worked for Hickory Springs for 15 years as plant manager in Roanoke, Va. and retired as director of accounts receivable for Fremont Medical Centers, Las Vegas, NV. Richard was a former member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Surviving are his sisters; Doris Lutz of Hickory and Martha Barnette and husband, Charles of Conover; brother, Jerry Lutz and wife, Linda of Newton; aunts, Mae Hefner Honeycutt and Gail Hefner both of Hickory; five nieces, a nephew, a number of great nieces and nephews, two great- great nieces, two great- great nephews and a special pet named Windsor. Memorial service Friday, February 12, 2016, at 3:00 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ed Yount and Rev. Michael Surratte officiating. A private inurnment will follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, February 12, 2016, at Hickory Funeral Home from 1:45 – 2:45 P. M.
