Nancy Moore Shanks, passed away on March 3, 2023 at the age of 82. Born July 6, 1940 in Keene, NH, and moved at 6 months to Springfield, Vermont to Bill and Hazel Moore. She graduated with the class of 1958 from Springfield High School. She married Jack Ervin Shanks on September 20, 1958 and moved to Ohio and helped put her husband through Veterinary School at Ohio State. Jack graduated in 1964 and they moved to Damascus, MD where he set up practice. Nancy became a caterer and continued doing so when they moved to Mocksville, NC. She continued to cater meals at the First Presbyterian Church when they moved to Hickory.
Nancy was president of Mocksville Woman’s Club and also the Hickory Woman’s Club. She received the Federation Day Award. She was an avid duplicate bridge player and was manager for years of Conover Bridge Club. She played bridge on line and received District 7 Goodwill award in 2011. She was an active member of NC Pollettes where she served as Secretary and received “National Pollette of the year in 1985. Nancy was an avid fan of THE Ohio State Buckeyes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jack E. Shanks who passed in 2009; granddaughter, Katie Hood; sister, Dorothy Donnelly; and brother, Billy Moore.
She is survived by son, Jack Douglas Shanks of Etters, PA; daughter, Kim Herman and husband, Todd of Lima, Ohio; grandchildren, David Shanks, Rob Shanks and partner, Will Harris, Kasey Heindel and husband, Dan; great-grandchildren, Madison Shanks, Jackson Shanks, Hailey Drust, Kannan Heindel and Kylar Heindel; brother-in-law, Jerry Shanks and wife Susan; all of whom she loved so very much.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Newton. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 750 W 13th Street, Newton, NC or NC Junior Hereford Association, 400 David’s Chapel Road, Vale, NC 28168.
