Martha Joylee Jones

Martha Joylee Jones, 67, of Hickory, formerly of Conover, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, following a period of declining health, on June 20, 2017 at her residence. Born May 26, 1950 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Harold Eugene Jones and Virginia Bassford Jenkins. Martha was known by her close friends and family as “Joy”. She graduated from Maiden High School and was a lifelong fan of sports; her favorites being Yankees baseball, NC State and Nascar. Joy also loved music and going to concerts. She passed along her love of music to her children. Reading was a passion for Joy, especially biographies. Joy worked hard to raise her two girls, ending her work life by retiring from Hanes Industries after 20 years. She spent her final days being cared for by her daughters and granddaughters.

Martha is survived by her daughters, Gina Hartsell and husband David of Conover and Amanda McKinney and husband Shane of Hickory; grandchildren, Lauren Dillard, Meredith Dillard, Jacob McKinney and Cody McKinney.

A Memorial Service in Celebration of Martha’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, June 25, 2017 in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory with Chaplain Kim Dowell officiating.

The family will greet friends following the service.
