He was born in Catawba County on July 25, 1923, to the late Belton and Minnie Smith Reinhardt.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Geneva Knox Reinhardt; grandson Ryan Erikson and sisters Goldie Ellis and Dorothy Martin.
J.D. was an US Army veteran, serving in WWII. Lifelong member of Corinth Baptist Church. He worked full-time as a poultry and apple farmer until his retirement. At that time, he began crafting woodturned bowls for his own enjoyment. He has created over 200 pieces over the past 20 years. His passion was growing flowers and feeding the birds that he enjoyed watching. Known as “Papaw Dule” by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he will be deeply missed by his family.
He is survived by his daughter Sherry Erikson of Hickory; his son Kevin Reinhardt and wife Debbie of Vale; granddaughters Kitrina Thompson and husband Brad of Vale, and Michele Kincaid of Vale; grandson Greg Erikson of Hickory; great granddaughters Emma Erikson, Finley Thompson, Scarlett Thompson and Kenna Kincaid; sisters Arie Taylor of Vale, Betty “Bet” Pope of Statesville, and Faye Sain of Vale.
Viewing will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 1:00pm to 1:45pm at Corinth Baptist Church.
Graveside will follow at 2:00pm at Corinth Baptist Church cemetery with Reverend William Kanupp officiating and military honors.
