James was born May 23, 1924 in Lincoln Co. to the late Jacob Alba and Catherine Selena Rhyne Reep. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Kay Reep Lankford and 2 brothers, Jacob Alba Reep, Jr. and J. Rhyne Reep.
He was a member of Highland United Methodist Church for over 60 years and was a very active member, life time member of St. Stephens Optimist Club where he served as a Lt. Gov. of the N. C. Optimist and served in the US Army during WW II . He retired as an insurance salesman for Home Security Life Ins. Co and later worked for Hickory Funeral Home. He enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Hickory Nut Squares.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Richard Reep of the home, daughters: Judy Dianne Reep Barringer and husband, Tim of Conover and Nancy Jeanne Reep Cochran and husband, Michael of Martinsville, VA, son-in-law: Dick Lankford of Raleigh, granddaughters: Christy Klassett Kunes and husband, Marc of Fort Belvior, VA. Stacy Jeanne Colledge of Redondo Beach, CA, Jordan Michaela Cochran of Martinsville, Va., grandson: Richard “Richie” Jay Colledge and wife, Mary of Martinsville, Va., great granddaughters: Courtney Elise Deal, Camryn Nicole Deal, Marcy Christine Kunes all of Fort Belvior, VA, Sarah Michelle Kunes of Lebanon, PA and a great grandson: Brandon Taylor Colledge of Martinsville, VA.
Services will be Friday, March 4, at 11:00 A. M. at Highland United Methodist Church with the Reverend David Hobson officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military graveside honors by American Legion Post #48 .
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 – 7:30 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home.
