Fred Eugene Canipe

Hickory – Fred Eugene Canipe, 77 of Hickory went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Autumn Care in Morganton.

Born on February 28, 1944 in Catawba County, NC, he was the son of the late Evan Dossie and Bessie Mabel Canipe. He was proud of the fact that he graduated from high school with a 12 year perfect attendance record. Fred was a United States Navy Veteran and a member of the American Legion, as well as, a member of East Hickory Baptist Church. He loved his family and will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his wife Retha, his son Phillip, a sister Lois Canipe, and special friend Rachel McNeeley.

He is survived by a sister Sarah Heffner and husband Kenneth of Hickory, NC, two brothers Marcus Canipe and wife Dorothy of Georgetown, TX, Earl Canipe of Abingdon, VA, a sister Joyce Greene of Asheville, NC. Fred had numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved, and loved Greg and Janet Cook of Morganton and their children and grandchildren as family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Catawba Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Mark Schmitz officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Hickory Baptist Church in Fred’s name.
