Dorothy Juanita Woody Yount, 88, of Hickory, went home to heaven on August 2, 2013. Juanita’s greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her family and she will be remembered fondly as a precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Juanita’s lifelong dream was to simply be a mother and despite indescribable odds, God blessed her and her husband, the former James Edwin Yount Sr., with both a son and a daughter. She spent her life loving her children and later, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On many occasions, she would keep a photo of one of her children or grandchildren tucked in her pocket as a reminder to pray for them. She would often teasingly say, “Your picture’s in my pocket!” to remind one of the grandchildren that she was praying for them through a difficult season.
She was a devout Christian and along with her husband, she taught children’s Sunday School for fifty years. She loved decorating her home for Christmas and she never turned down a box of Russell Stover chocolates. Juanita was never too busy for her family. No problem was ever too big or too small for her to put aside her daily chores and lend a listening ear. She led her family with a quiet strength and kept everyone laughing with her witty sense of humor. While some might have thought of Juanita as an ordinary woman, to those that knew her best, she will forever be a hero.
A graveside service will he held at Catawba Memorial Park on Monday, August 5, 2013 at 3:30 p.m.
