He was born on July 6, 1939 to the late Ralph L. Bentley and Mabel Bentley in Catawba County. Charles was a proud and well-respected United States Army Veteran. His devotion to his country and fellow veterans, was unmatched. Charles held the position of Commander, two terms for the American Legion Post 48 and served as Commander for AmVets. He hand carved canes for veterans and elderly folks who were in need. Charles also owned his own Electrical business. He was a life-long member of the Foothills Antique Power Association. His accomplishments and service are only a few of his greatest honors. His highest honor was his unwavering faith to his Lord and Savior and caring for his beloved family. He was an outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting and fishing and mostly spending time with his family. He was a hardworking man, always willing to help anyone in need and never looking for anything in return. His memory will be cherished by those who loved him dearly.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy McClellan Bentley; sister, Marie Williams McMahon, Susan Bentley Meade; infant sibling.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Dayle Bentley; sons, Charles Wayne Bentley Jr. and wife Jennifer, Leslie Eugene Bentley and significant other Deborah Huffman; granddaughter, Amber Bentley; grandsons, Brandon Bentley, Leslie Eugene Bentley, Jr.; great grandchildren, Breanna Bentley, Max Bentley, Annabelle Bentley; stepson, Max Abee; step grandson, Tayler Abee.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 25,2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 until 10:45 at the funeral home. Pastor Britt Holman will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. Military Honors will be rendered by the AmVets.
The family will be receiving friends and family at Charles’s home following the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Carter, Donald Williams, Phillip Williams, Kevin Bradshaw, Mark Minton, and Brent Presnell.
