Bruce McCoy Shook, 81, of Hickory, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born in Catawba County on May 4, 1931, he was the son of the late Junius Shook and Essie Bowman Shook. Raised by his grandparents, Alonzo and Senora Killian Shook, Mr. Shook served in the Army from 1951 – 1953, and was a CPL during the Korean Conflict with the 25th Infantry division, D Co. He was an avid fisherman and a long-time St. Stephens High Booster where he cared for the football field.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, Bruce was preceded in death by his other grandparents, Lester and Minnie Bowman and siblings, Hayden Shook, Earl Shook and Virginia Shook Turner.
Bruce is survived by his former wife, Mary Jane Mitchem Shook; daughters, Tanya Shook, and Theresa Richards and her children, Sara and Brad Isaacs, Jennifer and Nick Davis and Carrie Richards; great-grandchildren, Peyton Isaacs, Barrett Davis and Eden Richards and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Stevens officiating. Burial, with military rites, will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Drum Funeral Home in Hickory.
