Andrew Davie Williams of Hickory, North Carolina passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on April 30, 2018 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte. Andy was born July 1, 1956 in Neptune, New Jersey. He was the son of the late William B. Williams, Jr. and Mary D. Williams of Freehold, New Jersey. On July 26, 1978, in Canisteo, New York, Andy married Kathy Murphy, who survives and resides in Hickory. Together they proudly raised two sons, William A. Williams and Kyle D. Williams who were his best friends and buds.
Andy spent his youth in Freehold, NJ, later moving to Western New York where he met his wife. Andy has been a resident of Hickory since 1992. Andy belonged to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters for over 20 years prior to establishing Andrew D. Williams General Contracting as owner and operator in Catawba County. Andy was a skilled craftsmen and mentored many in his trade.
In his free time, Andy enjoyed golfing with his sons and friends; cooking and trying out new recipes; reading the Bible, novels, and biographies; he was a model railroading enthusiast and an avid NY Giants fan. Andy was active in coaching his sons’ sporting teams including football, baseball and wrestling. Andy valued family trips to the mountains, traveling on scenic railroads and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends reminiscing of his glory days.
Andy is survived by his sons, William (Katherine) Williams of Charlotte, NC and Kyle (Jayni) Williams of Charlotte, NC; by his granddaughter Mary Isabella; by his sister, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Curtis of Charlotte, NC; by his brother, William (Trudy) Williams, III of Uxbridge, MA; by his sister in laws Cynthia (Mike) Hornbeck of Hornell, NY and Andrea (Mike) Deebs of Hornell, NY; brother in laws Terry (Barb) Murphy of Canisteo, NY and Andy (Lynette) Murphy of Canisteo, NY as well as many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service will be held at Catawba Funeral Home in Hickory, NC at 3:00pm on Friday, May 4, 2018 with Reverend Greg Williams officiating; visitation of family and friends will follow the service.
