Jose Valentin Mercado

Jose Valentin Mercado passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones on August 1, 2024 at the age of 60. Jose was born on February 14, 1964, in Las Palmas, Yahualica de Gonzalez Gallo, Jalisco, Mexico and was the second youngest of 10 children born to Angel Mercado and Maria del Refugio Sandoval who were farmers. Jose started from humble beginnings tending to his family’s farm animals and crops until the age of 15 when he moved to the United States in 1979, residing in Monrovia, CA, following the death of his father. He graduated from Monrovia High School and went on to receive his associates degree as an automotive mechanic and eventually become a machinist. He was a self-employed machinist for over 35 years, co-founder of JRD Screw Machine Company and owner of UG Screw Machine Products.

Jose V. Mercado married Edubiges Marin at Immaculate Conception Church in Monrovia, CA on October 10th, 1987, and is survived by his wife, their ten children; Fernando, Jose, Eduardo, Vicky, Alejandro, James, Uriel, Uziel, Cindy, Lindsay, and their 12 grandchildren; Aileen, Audrey, Angelina, Aiden, Victoria, Leah, Liam, Vivianna, Reynaldo, Josephine, Frances, Lucien and loving brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jose V. Mercado’s life was characterized as being a kind hearted, warm soul who placed his love for God and his family above all else. He will be remembered for having an open and welcoming personality which focused on indulging the present moment with loved ones. He will be remembered by his children for being a true role model of what it means to be a devoted and loving husband, a patient and supportive parent, affectionate and lively grandparent and a kind and compassionate person. Jose touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
