On Friday, April 23, 2021, Zenaida "Sandy" Garcia-Tully; a loving wife and mother of three, passed away at the age of 74 at her home in Henderson, Nevada. She was born on December 21, 1946 in Los Angeles, California to Albert and Adela (Gomez) Placencio. Known to her friends and family as "Sandy"; she was raised in Central and Silver City, New Mexico, with her nine siblings.
As a young child, Sandy was constantly involved in all sorts of activities with her family; she enjoyed playing "Jacks" with her sisters. Sandy was even-tempered, taking care not to get involved in too many family conflicts. This quality served her well, in perpetually bringing harmony, understanding and a sense of peace to the family. She carried these traits into her adult life and served as one of many reasons why family and friends found her pleasurable and delightful to be around. Sandy was a person who genuinely understood and cared for others, making powerful connections with those she knew.
During her high school years, Sandy had a natural flair for cheering on and applauding just about everyone. She was constantly offering her support and encouragement to fellow members of the groups and activities in which she participated. She did well in school and genuinely enjoyed telling stories in a way that drew people to her. In this way, Sandy had a talent for becoming the center of attention, a kind of social catalyst. She was often found to be the lead person facilitating a group activity, frequently filling the role of being “the life of the party.” Teachers and classmates knew Sandy as an excellent listener. She placed a high value on learning and always understood that there was a new lesson to be grasped waiting for her just around the corner. She graduated from Cobre High School.
Following high school, Sandy was ready to start her new life and family. Her new life involved relocating to Southern California, and then to Las Vegas, Nevada; where she met and married Andy Garcia, and raised three beautiful children. While she remained friends with Andy throughout their lives, the couple parted ways.
Sandy met David in an internet chat room in 2000, and the couple were married on July 27, 2001 in Selby Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Compassionate and devoted, Sandy worked hard to make her new family happy, as she and David, blended their lives and families. She was always generous with her time and this meant that David came first in Sandy’s book. She was always caring and made certain that she considered David’s feelings. Sandy did her best to make sure that both the marriage and home life ran smoothly. Like most marriages, there were always challenges to face. It was during these times for David and Sandy that he would address her as his "Latin American Firecracker".
The most important areas in Sandy's life were her family and her home. She worked tirelessly throughout her life to ensure the stability of her home and the lives of her children. She experienced success in her work life over and over again by taking different jobs from time to time to help support the family. Sandy took pride in seeing her family blossom.
Sandy enjoyed traveling, and because she was so well organized, she would take on the responsibility of planning and scheduling all of the family vacations. Her gift for keeping things lively meant that vacations with Sandy were always enjoyable. Her favorite vacations included: trips to New Mexico and the United Kingdom.
Many things can be said about Sandy Garcia-Tully. Known to her friends and acquaintances as a friendly, energetic, empathic and a decisive woman; her compassionate nature would always shine through, revealing her charm, warmth, and conscientious demeanor. She was warmhearted, gentle and organized in all the things she sought to accomplish. Sandy was a mentor, a natural “teacher” capable of seeing things clearly, leading others and bringing out the best in all of those around her. Sandy leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and cherished memories. Everyone whose lives she touched will miss her dearly.
Sandy is survived by her husband, David; three children: Ramon (Karolyne) Placencio, Jose (Christina) Garcia, and Dolores Garcia; two sisters: Yolanda and Hope; five grandchildren: Brandon and Justin McBride, Melchiah, Autumn, and Gianna Garcia; one great granddaughter, Jade McBride; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
