Mark Thomas Linnell

Mark Thomas Linnell, age 63, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on Monday April 9, 2018. Mark was born April 27, 1954 in MN. Mark Thomas Linnell, was born on April 27, 1954, in South St. Paul, Minnesota.

A graduate from South Saint Paul High School, and the University of Minnesota. Mark attended University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) from 1972-74. He played on the undefeated 1973 football team under Coach Deryl Ramey, the first team inducted into the UMC Athletic Hall of Fame. An all-conference, All-American center, Linnell was the team’s co-captain. Linnell also played goalie for UMC's Hockey team. The team won first in the state and went on to place second in the national tournament in National Junior College Athletic Association in Lake Placid, New York.

Mark lived in Minnesota until 2004 when he moved to Henderson, Nevada with his then wife, Jeannie Linnell, and daughter, Lisa J. Linnell. Mark resided in Henderson, Nevada for the past 14 years and loved the warm and dry Las Vegas heat and sunshine and enjoyed spending time outside and swimming as often as he could.

Mark loved attending and watching all different types of sporting events and was a very talented athlete himself. Mark played football, hockey, and participated in track and field. He was a big racing fan and enjoyed Indy car racing and traveling to the INDY 500 every year for the last 29 years. He loved NASCAR, the Vegas Golden Knights hockey team, and the Kentucky Derby. His favorite TV shows were game shows, and he also loved to participate in weekly group trivia.

Mark had many friends and was well liked by everyone. He was loved by all who knew him, and his friends all enjoyed his company and his unforgettable smile and laugh. Mark was always a good and kind man, who was funny and was always making everyone laugh. He will be remembered for a long time for the great man that he was, and his memory will be kept alive through all of the stories his family and loved ones have to share about him.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Katherine Linnell, and his sister Kim (Linnell) Whebbe. Mark is survived by daughter Lisa J. Linnell whom he loved and cherished, and she will always be daddy’s little girl; three siblings are: brother, Dennis Linnell, married to Judy Linnell; sister, Susan Linnell, married to Ivan Posthumus; and sister, Cheryl Kinney, married to Cliff Bickerstaff. He is further survived by his nieces and nephews, Shawn, Shari, Ryan, Nick, Jake, and Eddie; and former spouses, Jeannie Linnell and Becky Linnell, continued to maintain a friendly relationship with him until his passing.
