After enlisting on 20 Sep 1950 and completing recruit training at Parris Island in January, 1951, PFC Mosher was given an infantry specialty and assigned to Company D, 2d Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment. Two months later, his company shipped out on the USS Randall (APA-224) for the Mediterranean. Between 15 March and 27 June, his ship made port stops in Gibraltar, Sicily, Naples, Malta, La Spezia, Oran (Algeria), Leghorn Italy, Phaleron Bay and Suda Bay, Greece. After return to Camp Lejeune, Co. D. made another amphibious exercise on USS Sarasota (APA 204) in the Caribbean during Fleet Exercise 1-52. After the new year, Corporal Mosher received orders to the Training and Replacement Command, Camp Pendleton, California to join the 17th Replacement Draft headed for Korea. Arriving at Co D, 2d Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment in March 1952, he became a fire team and squad leader and participated in combat operations in west central Korea. On the 20th of May, he received a wound in hostile action, but chose to remain with his squad. Eleven days later, he was wounded again and this time the wound required his evacuation back to the US. He remained on hospital status at Naval Station, San Francisco until certified fit for duty almost a year later. Now a sergeant, he was transferred to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, South Carolina, where he underwent NCO School and DI School before assignment as a Drill Instructor with the 2d Recruit Training Battalion. On 20 Sep 1953, Staff Sergeant Mosher reached expiration of active service and chose to return to civilian life. For his hard work, valor, and dedication to duty Staff Sergeant Mosher was awarded the Purple Heart with one gold star, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.
Lawrence was devoted husband and father. He was twice a widower, to his first wife, Jan and his second wife, Helen. To support his family, Lawrence worked at the Denver Mint, retiring as Captain of the Security Force. Upon retirement, he relocated to Henderson from Colorado to escape the cold and the snow.
Lawrence was a man of principal, strong in his faith, close with God; and a member of the Henderson United Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, card games and gambling in his favorite local casinos. He was a proud American and Marine, who received lots of love because he gave lots of love. He will truly be missed.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, and his two wives, and six siblings. He is survived by his three children: Sharon, Earl and Lawrence H; one sister Laura, and his extended family.
