Judith (Judi) Lenora Hamblin, age 83, died peacefully on December 9, 2024, in her comfortable room at the Bee Hive Home in Henderson, Nevada. Judi was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 11, 1941, to Elgin (Peggy) Hoy and Robert Hamblin. Except for her years at college, she lived her entire life in Henderson, NV. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Young, her parents, her sister Roberta Lea, and her brother Ronald Dale. Surviving are her cousin Terry Jane Fasana of Baldwin Park, CA; niece Shannon Janvrin of Las Vegas, NV; niece Michaela Kelley of Boise, ID; nephew Timothy Kelley of Boise, ID; and two cats Midnight and Miss Kitty.
Judi graduated from Basic High School in 1959. She attended St. Luke's School of Nursing in Denver, CO eventually transferring to Provo, UT, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education (English) from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, and a Master's Degree in Secondary and Post-Secondary Education from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. She taught English and Mythology at her alma mater, Basic High School until her retirement in 2000. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and at age 21 served a full-time mission to Uruguay. A passionate spirit, Judi advocated for women's empowerment, actively involved with her political party, a leader in the Nevada Education Teacher Association – Retired (NSEA-R), and a self-proclaimed ailurophile (cat lover).
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 400 S Water St, Henderson, NV 89015, on Saturday, December 21 at 2:00 pm with a brief viewing before the funeral at 1:30 pm. Gravesite dedication and interment will be at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV, on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at 9:20 am where she will be put to rest with her husband, Ralph.
