Dennis W. Baker, age 73; a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend; passed away from a sudden heart attack on Friday, November 25, 2022. He was born in Spanish Fork, Utah to his parents William Lester Baker and Shirley Rae (Measom) Baker.
Dennis spent most of his childhood in Springville, Utah. Just before his last year in High School, the family moved to Murray, Utah with Dennis then graduating from Granite High in Salt Lake City in 1967. He went on to continue his education at Trade Tech for next 2 years in Salt Lake City learning Diesel Mechanics.
After graduation, Dennis was drafted into the U.S Army; spending basic training in Fort Lewis, Washington. During this time, he asked his sweetheart Nancy Dallin to marry him which took place while on leave December 22, 1969. Dennis went back to Fort Lewis for AIT training and soon found out he was headed for Vietnam, leaving in March of 1970. Shortly after, the young couple found out they were expecting their first baby.
Dennis arrived back home in January of 1971 to their sweet baby boy Dennis Lester. Dennis and Nancy lived in West Jordan, Utah with Dennis working with his Dad in their company, B & D Machine Erectors doing Millwright work. In 1972, another sweet baby boy was born, Michael LeRay. In 1973, the family went through the Salt Lake Temple and were sealed as a family.
Dennis was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He enjoyed going to the temple with his sweetheart and being a senior companion with her in their ministering assignments at the time of his death.
After his dad’s retirement, Dennis went to work at Geneva Steel Co. in Orem, Utah and the family moved to Provo, Utah. When Geneva Steel went down, the family then relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1987 working at Colosseum Gold Mine and Viceroy Gold Mine. When the mines closed down, the family eventually found themselves in Henderson, Nevada working for Timet. Dennis retired in 2016.
Dennis truly valued his time fishing and hunting with his boys; later fishing with the grandkids and watching them all in their sports. He loved animals, especially his dogs. Dennis also enjoyed watching movies and loved working on cars, his favorite being the 1931 Ford Model A his Dad once owned. He was always there to help anyone else with their cars, and could fix just about anything, even within the house.
Until we meet again, we will miss his kind and generous heart, his endless wisdom, his joyful and witty presence, and the ability to make us laugh in our life.
Dennis is survived by his eternal companion, Nancy; two sons: Dennis L. (Tonya) Baker of Pahrump, Nevada and Michael L. (Janelle) Baker of Henderson, Nevada; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Sandra Baker Walters of Provo, Utah and Hollis Baker of San Marcos, California; two brother-in-laws: Keith Dallin (Denise) of Springville, Utah and Wayne McDonald (Yvonne) of Santaquin, Utah; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Cheryl Smith; and sister-in-law, Judy McDonald.
As a family we would like to give our heartfelt thanks to the Country Brook Ward for the outpouring of love shown and for the meals that were brought in; to all the Relief Society Sisters for the luncheon and programs made for the service, and to all our family and friends for their comfort and love.
