Carol was born in Sacramento, California on March 16, 1944 and came to Las Vegas as an infant with her mother Dorothy (Clapham) and her father J.D. “Tex” Carpenter and a brother and sister. Her heart’s treasure was her son Gregory Wright. She was looking forward to celebrating the 30th anniversary of marriage to her husband Bruce O’Brien in October. Carol retired on disability after years as a maintenance manager at a large apartment complex. Her husband and son helped her adjust to her new status as a homebound adult. Self-taught and with the help of dear friends Ruth and Fred Colella, she mastered the computer and made many internet friends who will miss her. As an adult, she was short in stature but mighty and “feisty” at any injustice. Her love of dolls was passed down from her grandmother Mable and she began collecting them as a young adult in memory to her. She loved being a member of the Purple Sage Red Hat Society. Carol was a foster mother for children in the Juvenile Court system for several years. She was an avid reader and movie buff. Carol attended the historic Fifth Street School on Las Vegas Blvd.; Sunrise Acres Elementary on Eastern Avenue and Rancho High School. Her Rancho Rams beanie still hangs on her wall.
Carol was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mabel Keele and Harold Clapham; parents Tex and Dorothy Carpenter; brothers: James Roland Carpenter and Jerry Lee Carpenter as well as nephew, James Roland, Jr. She is survived by her sisters: Diana (Rex) Shelburne, niece Stephanie Shelburne and nephew Philip Shelburne; Linda (Mike) Jackson, nephews Thomas and Darin Irvin; Karen Colwell, niece Mandy Colwell and nephew Brian Colwell and wife Allison; niece Julie Pitts and family; nephew Bryan Carpenter and family and nieces Cheryl Smith and Crystal Wrich and families and niece Traci Carpenter. She so loved being an aunt and great aunt to all.
