Robert Morris was born on September 16, 1934, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was the third child of Louise Vance (1909-1999). He was preceded in death by his eldest brother, Reuben Vance (1929-2009), his sister, Pauline Griffin (1932-2013), and his youngest brother, Joseph Connor.
Robert peacefully departed this life on December 2, 2024, at home in the loving arms of his wife, Natalie. He completed his education at Garnett High School in Charleston, West Virginia, where he was raised. In 1950, Robert proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving for three years during the era of the Korean War .
After his military service, Robert returned to Charleston, West Virginia, and later moved to Landover, Maryland, in 1965. In 1966, he earned his CDL license from Amityville Tractor Driving School, beginning a 50-year career as a truck and bus driver until his retirement in 2010.
In 1967, Robert married his first wife, Wanda Burton, and they welcomed their son, Christopher Morris, born on June 11, 1970 (1970-1999). After their divorce, Robert met Doris Fuller, and together they had a daughter, Robyne Morris, born on July 22, 1971.
In 1998, Robert met his second wife, Natalie Gayton, in Charleston, West Virginia, at his sister’s home. They married on October 23, 1998. In their 26 years of marriage, Natalie lovingly embraced her stepdaughter, Robyne, as her own.
Robert was known for his warm smile and kind heart, never meeting a stranger. He had a natural gift for making people laugh and was a talented cook who insisted on serving others before sitting down himself. He loved the Lord and his family, always encouraging love and unity.
In 2003, Robert dedicated himself to Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, where he received a certificate of baptism. He was a faithful choir member and often drove the church bus, ensuring members could attend Bible study and various events.
Robert leaves behind to cherish his memory: His beloved wife, Natalie Morris, daughter, Robyne Morris (Carey), father-in-law, Bennie Louis Overton II, sisters-in-law, Joyce Jones and Portia Johnson (Steve), brothers-in-law, Clark Overton (Stephanie) and Bennie Overton III. His nieces and nephews: Michael Overton Sr., Kali Stevens (Megan), Michael Overton (Joy), Amber Overton, Sonyi Sparks (Anthony), Aaron Morris (1949-2020) (Inge), Howard Morris, Todd Morris (1962-2021), Floyd Griffin Jr., and Rod Griffin, Zandra Lyle, Tamra Vance, R.C. Vance II and Jacques Vance. A host of great-nieces, great-nephews, and other cherished relatives and friends
Robert’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue to inspire those he left behind.
