birthday often fell directly on Mother’s Day, which was hugely
appropriate since she was such an extraordinary mother.
She was a mother proud and supportive of her children and
the latest addition to her clan, her granddaughter. If part of
a mother’s job is to love unconditionally and create resilient
loving children, she completed her job with honors.
Mary was born and raised in Illinois, she spent her early
years in Sterling and Rock Island. She met the love of her
life, Manuel Garcia, and they were married in 1958. Over
the course of the next several years they had three children:
Alice Marie, Anthony and A Manuel. Mary wore many
hats in her life in addition to being a mother, she worked for
a number of companies around the Quad Cities, including
the former Farmall location in Rock Island. After her
husband died in 1986, Mary moved to Southern California
where she lived with her daughter for the next 30 years. She
loved nature and liked exploring the lakes and trails above
her home near the San Jacinto Mountains.
Mary leaves behind her children and her granddaughter,
Manuela Garcia (age 6). Her feistiness will be missed but
this is simply a so long and not a goodbye.
