James L. Jones was born on September 18, 1950, in Brownsville Tennessee, the son of Della Mae Lanier and Jacob Lee Jones (preceded in death). James accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age. He attended elementary school in Brownville Tennessee; however, he received his high school diploma through Job Corps in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Directly after Job Corps, he enlisted into United States Navy
completing Boot Camp at Great Lakes Naval base in Great Lakes, Illinois. He became Petty Officer James L. Jones dedicating his life to protecting our country.
He participated in many deployments along with the Gulf War August 1990-February 1991 (Operation Desert Shield/ Desert Storm). After completing 22 years of serves he retired as E-6. He was an exceptional person in every way, James was not only skilled and respected sailor but also a man of unwavering character and kindness. His two decades of services left an indelible make on those who served alongside him, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. James always put his family first. His strong work ethic and resourcefulness were not only admirable but also inspirational to those around him. His unwavering dedication and hard work were evident in every aspect of his life. After retiring from the United States Navy and Government assignment. James indulged in his passion of traveling cross country in his camper, fishing or just relaxing with friends and family.
On August 26, 2024, James L. Jones was called to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jacob Lee Jones and Della Mae Lanier. his brothers Walter Jones Sr, Douglas Jones, and Michael Jones Lanier. May we cherish the memories of James L. Jones and may his soul rest in eternal peace, forever remembering him for his sacrifice and the extraordinary person he was.
James is survived by his Children: Pam Watkins, Diane Sullivan, Charmaine Ramis, Jonathan Jones, Adam Jones and Jamesia Jones. Dawn Hairston (Significant partner) (14) Grandchildren, (3) Great Grandchildren. Siblings: Pearlie M. Palmer, Alice Anderson, Catherine Lindley, Frances Houston, and Shawn Lanier and Host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and abundance of friends.
