Gloria Jean Elison known to everyone who knew as Jean completed her Earthly Journey on September 21, 2023 at home in Hemet, California, having lived a life full of love for her family.
Jean (also known as Jeannie to her family and friends) was born in Blackfoot, Idaho on March 25, 1944, to her loving parents Ruth and LaMar Elison. Her fondest memories were growing up on the family farm in Blackfoot with her four younger Brothers, Blake, Brent, Layne and Ritchie who she adored and loved. Being the oldest child, Jean would always call her brothers her “Baby Brothers” even as they were older. She cherished and was excited every moment she was able to spend with her brothers. She would always tell stories of her childhood with fond memories. She graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1962.
Jean was a proud and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she enjoyed many callings.
In 1966, Jean married Terry Reid (divorced 1988) in the Los Angeles Temple. The marriage produced her greatest pride, her Children, Sean, Stephen, Stewart, Travis and Kaelene. Nothing made her happier than being a mother to her 5 kids. Jean always placed her children’s needs before her own and would always sacrifice for her children. She was always volunteering as a Den Mother in Cub Scouts, helping in swim class, scoring baseball games or at fairs with the FFA. Her undying love for her children will always be remembered and cherished by them.
She enjoyed singing in Church and at home. There were many road trips where she would sing children’s songs with her kids when they were young to pass the time and to keep them from fighting.
Jean enjoyed baking pies for family gatherings. She was also known for her delicious rolls which were only bested by the one who taught her how to bake, her mother. Everything was baked from scratch from the pies, bread and rolls. It was a known fact people would make a meal out of their rolls alone. Making Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner with her mother was always an event full of delicious foods and treats, but their rolls were the Main Event of the meal. She was also known for her potato salad which was in high demand from anyone who had the great opportunity of eating it. A three-gallon tub of her potato salad would not last one meal with her kids. Her son Stewart even had a special song and dance honoring it.
She enjoyed crocheting and made sure all her kids received a hand crocheted Afghan. She would spend numerous hours working on each of her personal gifts. Making sure they were perfect.
When her kids were grown, Jean got two Maltese puppies (Jack and Abby to the surprise of her children). Jean loved and adored her dogs and pampered them like they were her own children.
Jean spent over 50 years working as a Dental Assistant for many Doctors, which she enjoyed and was proud of.
Jean was a little of a daredevil and enjoyed fast and scary rides at amusement parks. The faster and scarier the better. Jean fulfilled a bucket list item at the age of 76 when she rode the longest zipline in the world over a body of water at the Deer Creek Reservoir near Heber, Utah. Jean enjoyed going out to the desert with her son-in-law, Joe to ride in the Razor. The faster the car would go the bigger her smile got.
In her final years, Jean lived with and was taken care of by her daughter, Kaelene and her son in law, Joseph. Jean was mischievous and at the encouragement of Joseph would constantly disobey Kaelene when told she could not do something. She would smirk at Kaelene as if telling her, “You are not my mother,” and do whatever she wanted to do. Jean and Joseph were a couple troublemakers when they worked as a team to gang up on Kaelene. He even got Jean to flip the bird at Kaelene a couple times. She truly enjoyed having a partner in crime to go against the “Warden.”
Jean is the grandmother of 7 Grandsons and 5 Granddaughters which she loved and is so proud of each one of them. She is also the Great Grandmother of 3.
She was preceded in death by her son, Sean, Father, LaMar Elision, Mother Ruth Elison, Brothers Blake Elison and Ritchie Elison and her beloved dogs Jack and Abby.
Jean is survived by her Children, Stephen Reid (wife Heather), Stewart Reid (wife Brandi), Travis Reid (wife Shauna), Kaelene Smith (husband Joseph), Grandchildren Alyssia Reid, Seth Fricke, Mathew Reid, Kayle Reid, Rebekiah Reid, Alison Reid, Nicolas Reid, LeeAnna Reid, Joshua Reid, Ethan Necochea, Eli Necochea and Evan Necochea, Great Grandchildren Tayven, Korvin and Madelynn, Brothers, Brent Elison and Layne Elison plus numerous nieces and nephews.
At her request, a Celebration of Life will be held later. Jean will be buried in the San Jacinto Valley Cemetery in a private ceremony.
