Florencia Basa Enriquez

Florencia Basa Enriquez went to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 1, 2019, in Hemet, California, at the age of 86. She was the eldest child born to the late Gregorio Basa and the late Iluminada (Del Rosario) Basa, in Philippines, on Monday, January 2, 1933.

Florencia was married to the love of her life, Gregorio Enriquez, for 33 years, before his passing on January 18, 2001. They were both blessed with 3 caring children, Gregorio Basa Enriquez, Marie Basa Enriquez-Bernard, and George Basa Enriquez and later with 2 adoring grandchildren Nathaniel and Lucas.

She graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Santo Thomas College of Medicine in Manila, Philippines in 1956. Long before girl power, Florencia was a medical resident in the mid to late 50’s at Grasslands Hospital, New York. After completion of her residency she returned to the Philippines and there in the midst of a promising career fell in love with Gregorio, married and had three children. Believing the best path for her young family was in the US, she and the family worked hard to obtain their US citizenship. She then labored for years as an emergency room doctor in St. Anthony Community Hospital, Warwick, NY. After this intense work, the family moved to Ardmore, OK for her long-term position in the Veterans Center as an in-house geriatric care doctor. She retired in 2002 and moved to Hemet to be with her daughter who received her with open arms.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2019, from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, at Miller-Jones Mortuary, located on 1501 W. Florida Ave, Hemet, 92543, with a Rosary to follow at 6:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held, on Friday, December 13, 2019, at Our Lady of the Valley, located on 790 S State St, Hemet, CA 92543, with a Graveside Service to follow at, Crest Lawn Memorial Park, located on 11500 Arlington Ave, Riverside, CA 92505.
