Carol (Kelly) Ann Marr Oler was born in Howell, Michigan on March 16, 1941 to Clifford and Beatrice (Ott) Marr. Thus began a story of living life to the fullest. She went to live with her savior on August 29th, 2020.
She is survived by her adored husband John Oler, sons John (wife, Lynn) and Jeffery (wife, Robin) Pennala, step-sons Johnny (wife, April) and Jimmy (wife, Debbie) Oler; sister Marilyn (husband, Robert) Recker, brothers Fred (wife, Bev) and Ken (wife, Esther) Marr. Also, grandchildren Joshua, John and James Oler of Atlanta, Georgia; Michele, Matthew, Breanna, and Sean (wife, Dalisay) Pennala, and 4 beautiful great granddaughters - Aleena, Eleanor, Isabella, and Olivia of California
Kelly grew up on the family farm in Howell, the second of 4 children. Sister Marilyn was born in 1939, followed by Kelly in 1941. Ten years passed and the family was further blessed with brothers Fred and Ken. As Kelly liked to say of their childhood, “We were poor, but we didn’t know it.” Even then, she knew what was important, family, loyalty, hard work, love and respect.
Kelly was a graduate of Howell High School class of 1958 and attended Western Michigan University. She enjoyed a lengthy career at Dupont Corporation in Burbank, California and was an active member of several charitable organizations for many years, including: VFW Cootiettes, and American Legion, Moose, Elks, and Eagles Auxiliaries. She was also an active member of the Seven Hills Members Club.
Kelly married John Oler on December 27, 1975 and the two were inseparable until her death, sharing deep love for each other, and a zest for life, adventure, and laughter. Life was undoubtably challenging as the lone woman in a house of men, 3 of them named John. The boys grew up, married and had lives of their own, and Kelly and John moved on to the next chapter, adventure. Let the party begin!
Vacations were spent on the beach in San Felipe Mexico, duning in their sand rail in Dumont, or 4-wheeling in the Sierras. While at home she became the 2010 Seven Hills Club Chicken Dance Champion. In typical fashion, Kelly and John lived their life to the fullest, upon retirement traveling the country in their motor home and always finding time to visit family and friends along the way. It should be noted that these so-called visits were not visits at all, they were events! With a blast of the choo-choo train horn as the motor home rolled into town, the fun would begin. Never forgetting her roots, her visits to Michigan always included time at the farm and the family was often entertained with tales of mischief and hilarity.
She loved to celebrate any holiday and always had an outfit for each holiday. She would have her favorite orange Halloween shirt, red, white and blue glasses for the 4th of July and Christmas had many, many outfits, even Thanksgiving had an outfit!
Carol (Kelly) Ann Marr Oler brought light into the darkest of rooms. Her kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and profound love of life and of her people were priceless gifts to so, so many. She will never be forgotten and will always be missed by those fortunate enough to have shared life’s journey with her. , Kelly’s life on earth ended but her beautiful light will continue to shine in each and every one of us who were loved by her. Rest in peace, Kelly.
