Andrew W. “Andy” Anderson, 86, passed away shortly before midnight on November 23 at Hillcrest Cottage, Calimesa. Mr. Anderson was born in Gary, Indiana, son of Andrew W. Anderson and Bertha (Jesswein) Anderson. Andy moved to California from Michigan in 1949 and resided in Hemet the last 17 years.
Andy loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, riding motorcycles, and traveling, visiting national parks. He also liked western cowboy movies and novels. The long steel worker vacations every few years enabled driving trips to the family farm in Michigan. He operated a crane at Kaiser Steel Corporation, Fontana, and retired in 1982 after 31 years employment.
He enjoyed helping people, remodeling and altering his homes, and trading vehicles. London Spires Mobile Home Park awarded him first Volunteer of the Month award in July 2002. He helped re-roof Fontana Calvary Baptist Church where he was a member for several years. Andy dedicated himself to caring for his wife Barbara when she became an invalid. He loved his family and was a great father.
Survivors include daughter Kathleen Ventimiglia from Beaumont, CA; sons; Michael (Beverly), from Running Springs, CA and James (Debora), from Hemet, CA; sister Arlene (Jim) Niles, Michigan; sister-in-law Lois Glasson and husband Dale, from Highland, CA; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His wife of 62years, Barbara Anderson, son Charles and grandchild Russel preceded him in death.
A later family celebration of life ceremony will involve scattering his cremated body in the Pacific Ocean.
Entrusted to the care of McWane Family Funeral Home.
