Zelda Maslin Demsey passed away at home in Summerlin, Nevada on August 15, 2024 at the age of 101. She touched many lives and will be dearly missed. It will be hard to imagine life without her. We are heartbroken.
Zelda was preceded in death by her parents Celia and Jack Maslin, her loving husband Saul Demsey and her sisters Helen Shor and Hinda Glasser.
She is survived by her daughter Gerri Demsey, son Michael and daughter-in-law Susan Demsey, her grandchildren Rachel Lupini and Jacob Demsey and great grandchildren Giulia Maslin Lupini and Dev Noah Demsey, her nephew Tony Shor and niece Hillary Menaker, great nephew Andrew Orloff and great niece Zoey Wiesenborn. In addition, she will be greatly missed by numerous cousins and extended family with whom she shared lifelong affection.
Zelda was born in Manhattan on June 19, 1923. She attended Erasmus Hall High School and New York University. After graduation from the Savage School for Physical Education with a Master's degree, she started her long career teaching thousands of grateful students including multiple generations within some families. Her students adored her because of her supportive, respectful and non-judgmental nature.
After retirement, Zelda continued to substitute teach elementary and middle school students into her eighties. She left her New Rochelle home of over 50 years and moved to Tucson then Las Vegas in her final decades.
Zelda was an avid world traveler landing on six of the seven continents. She loved to dance and was a superlative cribbage player. Zelda cherished spending summers in the Hamptons enjoying food, drink and games with family.
Zelda’s memorial services will be held Monday August 19, 2024 at Riverside Memorial Chapel in Hawthorne, New York followed by burial at Beth David cemetery in Elmont New York.

Funeral Services for Zelda will be held Monday, August 19, 2024 at 11:00AM at The Riverside Memorial Chapel-Hawthorne, 100 Saw Mill River Rd, Hawthorne, NY 10532.
