Yetta Shroit Altman formerly of Mt. Vernon, NY passed away on Tuesday April 28, 2020 in the Calvary Hospital. She was 99 years old. Yetta was born on the lower east side of New York City on June 14, 1920 and was the daughter of Hyman and Anne Ratzmore Shroit. As a young girl she excelled in school graduating from Seward Park High School with a commercial diploma and also being the proud recipient of the French Medal of Honor. Yetta worked for many years for the Westchester County Department of Probation as a Stenographer. She married her devoted husband Nathan in 1951 settling in Mt. Vernon, New York where they raised their two sons. She was an active volunteer in Hadassah and the Leukemia League. She enjoyed a good game of cards which she taught to her grandsons. Yetta enjoyed the past 15 years residing in the Kittay House, a senior residence in the Bronx where she kept very active and her presence was enjoyed by all with her performances on their Open Mic Comedy show, singing blessings at Shabbat services and displaying her art work. Besides her husband Nathan, Yetta was predeceased by her sisters Sylvia Dyer, Celia Ward and her husband Joseph and her brother Sol Shroit. She was the loving mother of Art Altman and Dennis (Regina) Altman and beloved grandmother of Sean (Emily) and Neal (Adriana) and great grandmother of Jack and Mikayla. She is also survived by her in law Terrie Rosenbaum, nieces and nephews and their families.
